Transition to the knowledge society and its impact on university teaching

Abstract

This essay aims to show how the knowledge society has changed the way economic, social, and cultural development is promoted, giving prominence to innovation and information management. Given this scenario, Venezuelan universities must transform themselves into centers for the creation and management of knowledge, adapting their educational methods to foster critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork—essential skills in a constantly changing world. Scientific research is fundamental to this process, as it allows for the generation of solutions to national problems. Furthermore, university outreach has become a process of exchange, where the university learns from its environment and actively contributes to social development through collaboration with communities, businesses, and the government. Despite the country's economic and technological challenges, Venezuelan universities have the potential to adapt and lead in the knowledge society. In short, the transformation of Venezuelan universities is an inescapable responsibility to ensure progress and social equity, and requires the joint action of the academic sector, the state, and civil society.
