Situational leadership in teaching management at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Carabobo, Venezuela

Abstract

In an increasingly dynamic and demanding educational environment, university leaders play a crucial role in the pursuit of excellence. Consequently, this was the central theme of the present research, with the objective of analyzing situational leadership in the management of undergraduate teachers at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Carabobo in Venezuela, attending to the positivist paradigm, quantitative approach, in field work, with a descriptive level. The procedures of the non-experimental, transectional design were followed; addressing a population of 35 teachers, who answered a 14-item questionnaire with alternatives always, sometimes and never with content validity and 0.82 reliability. The analysis of the results was carried out with descriptive statistics, highlighting the majority tendency of educator’s equivalent to 49% always assume a directing style, defining tasks, making decisions and supervising students in the fulfillment of both theoretical and practical activities for patients. This is concluded by limiting effective academic management; productivity and competitiveness goals are not achieved; leaving teachers to delegate to team members in the classroom to make decisions and complete tasks.
