The objective of this essay is to analyze the importance of the academic competences of the teacher as a tool for the construction of the knowledge of the university student, based on a documentary investigation in which the contribution of different authors is considered, which mention that the competences can be understood as Manifest behaviors in work performance that allow a teacher to act effectively. Their appearance and stay in knowledge, desire, ability to achieve their goals, reasons why it is worth considering their qualified performance if they know how to estimate the consequences of the results of their actions. For this reason, its construction must respond to the demands of the 21st century society, since it must foster not only its reproduction but also its harmonious development, coexistence, present and future well-being for all its members. To the extent that they are socialized and integrated into their ideals, traditions, and cultural worldview. However, in what refers to university education, it is necessary to base professional quality not on an encyclopedic or pragmatic conception, but on competencies.
